The exhibition „Between the Folded Horizons“ by Julia Smirnova explores how spaces, places, and experiences unfold and transform. The title refers to the mythology of Skíðblaðnir, a magical ship that can be folded and unfolded— A SYMBOL of movement, change, and the multilayered nature of space.
Julia Smirnova works with photography, objects, video, and sound, integrating wire sculptures and found objects into her installations. By shifting perspectives and reinterpreting places, the artist questions our perception of space and asks what makes a place unique in a time of growing uniformity.
The tactile quality of analog photography enhances the fleeting essence of memory and presence, capturing the fragile balance between what remains and what disappears. Through her cityscapes and soundscapes, urban spaces emerge as nodes in a larger narrative—visual and acoustic landscapes in which the artist explores the interplay between nature and the urban Space, as well as our Desires in an increasingly restless world.
