EXTINCTION. A decay
by Thomas Bernhard
Extinction. A decay appeared in 1986 and is Bernhard's last great prose work.
Extinction is next to the still unpublished manuscript Schwarzach St. Veit his "most extensive and most significant novel".
The novel consists exclusively of an inner monologue, a transcript of the protagonist and first-person narrator Franz-Josef Murau, who describes his thoughts on the occasion of the accidental death of his parents and his brother.
