ROB VOERMAN
COLONY
Opening for the Open Art weekend 11.9.2020 18-21h
The artist is present.
Exhibition until October 30, 2020
Over the past 25 years, the Dutch sculptor Rob Voerman has built a work that consists of sculpture, photography, print graphics and large-scale, site-specific installations. Voerman has exhibited worldwide and his works are part of important collections such as the MoMA, the Stedelijk Museum, the Generali Foundation, the Deutsche Bank and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
COLONY is the second solo exhibition of the artist Rob Voerman in the arToxin gallery.
In 2017, arToxin showed the exhibition ENTROPIC EMPIRE, in which the artist's work revolved around the architectural utopias of great architects such as Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gerrit Rietveld, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the Bauhaus.
In the COLONY exhibition, Voerman shows new, large-format light boxes, sculptures and prints. As in the works from his last exhibition ENTROPIC EMPIRE, Voerman is fascinated to recreate real architectures, such as the UN building in New York, in an apocalyptic, deserted world. He generates dystopia, destruction, but also beauty. A subliminal, dark foreboding grips you when you look at the work. A look into our future?
